Default volvo's????

is it me or just my location (sw florida) but i see an awful lot of volvo tracktors out there, more now then ever before. why is that? are they cheaper, longer lasting, better fuel mileage than other brands? or is it something else all together?? or is it just the area that i live in?

pricing does play an important part for companies to consider when they are mass purchasing trucks. longevity of any truck make depends on proper PM services and of course driver operation. even the most expensive truck will not last long if a dummy drives it.

The volvo is very price competetive with freightliner so alot of companies like them. And if you drive a volvo you will love the ride they offer. It is very soft compared to a mack or freightshacker. I drove a volvo for 6 months before and loved it except it had an experimental engine in it and i kept losing fuel injectors.

I don't have any experience with the newer Volvo's, but I drive one of the old square nose Volvo's from the late 90's all day long and I think that truck will still be running 10 years from now. Bullet-proof.

Here in the UK Volvo and Scania are probably the most popular manufacturers of trucks. I find Volvos more comfortable myself and they have higher safety ratings and are often stronger.

I'm teaming with my wife in a Volvo 670. They are super nice!

1) IF you're ever in a front-end collision, the frame is built in such a way the motor and tranny immediately drop to the ground - they won't come up to visit you in the cab!

2) The hood is designed to shoot up and over the top of the cab in said front-end collision.

3) Doors are double-gasketed - just like the '98 Caddy I have at home. Super-quiet inside!! I think it's quieter than my Caddy.

4.) Lower bunk converts to a dinette. Great for meals together.

5.) Can come with built-in fridge behind the driver.

6.) If you're 6' 10" tall, you're able to stand up at the driver's position without bending over (that takes some getting used to)

7.) The dash is break-away, in case of accident, your knees aren't going to pay the price.

8.) The steering wheel is designed to collapse in event of accident.

9.) The pedals are designed to not trap your feet in event of an accident.

10.) My wife can tilt the engine hood with one hand and both feet on the ground.

11.) CB Antlers are built into the mirrors, the wire is routed through the doors and cab to a mount on top of the dash.

12.) The dash display will tell you if you have a headlight/tail light out; your true distance-to-empty on fuel; true fuel consumption and diagnostics on anything in the engine will display probs.

13.) Not totally sure on this, but it's my understanding Volvo can diagnose your truck problems while you're driving down the road through some type of satellite communications.

These are a few of the wonderful things about my truck!
