| | the truth sure would be nice
wow i thought finding a job would be easyer than this let me tell ya.
frist alittle about me:
1. i do as of now hold a permit in the state of florida fot class a with air.
2. i have never so much as looked though the winshied of a truck unless i was on the out side looking in.
3.i dont like companys or people that lie to me to get me to talk to them , then when i do every thing is now changed.
i want to drive a truck i want to see the country good or bad i want to do this and have for along long time now.
so i have applied to about 20-25 companys all of witch say they will train you to become a truck driver, so then when i talk to these companys when they return my call i get
"we do not train"
"you must complete a driving school then we will pay you that back"
"sorry you must have atleast 6 months over the road"
what the heck i mean come on i can not afford to go to school though i wish i could mt creit is bad and i don't see anyone co signing a loan if i don't have a job to cover my butt once i leave the school.
i mean come on now how many people really want to start a driving carrer at 34 like i do?
yes i will sign a contract with a company, i have no problem with that i look at this way you help i help you it is only fair. i know the pay sucks when you do that but i have no one in my family that drives, i am flat broke. so i really have no other choice than to have a company train me.
if any one can give me some "real" help please either leave a message for me here or send me an e-mail at oldslowchevy@yahoo.com my name is kevin and i am located in south west florida
i hope this does not get deleted as i really do need just alittle help getting my foot in the door.

OSC,
Are you unemployed at the moment? If so, you can get help to go to school through your unemployment office. You have to be patient though if you go that route, because the funding may not be there when you're ready.
If that doesn't work, then I would suggest going to a truckstop to pick up some of the free truck driving literature. These publications always have ads in them for companies looking for drivers.
Judging from your posts on here, you're in a bad spot right now in your life. You're not alone. If all else fails, sell some of your possessions to raise the money to go to school. The going rate in IL at a local college is about $3 - 3,500.
I'm a new driver myself and from what I've read, Florida isn't the best place for trucking jobs. This is due to the fact that not much freight moves out of there. So the companies have you at a disadvantage. Oh yeah, get use to the dishonesty throughout the industry. I'd stay away from any company that claims it's family run, whether large or small.

i hope this does not get deleted as i really do need just alittle help getting my foot in the door. | i find some of this strange and hard to believe. i think i responded to another posting of yours at one time or another. if you really want to drive, then apply to Swift, Werner, Schnieder, to name at least 3 companies. they will train you, and you have to sign a contract for that. you then work for them anywhere's from 1 to 3 years under that contract.
i guess this is easy for me to say because i live up here in new england, and trucking schools, jobs, and outbound/inbound freight are here in spades.........meaning plentiful.
i started at or around the age of 31/32 myself, and i just was able to go to the local trucking school, sign my life away for $3,000 and get it over with.
you can try your local unemployment office, or a job corps office, but these i do not know of waiting times or qualifications to be met.
you need to contact the specific companies i mentioned above. but if you did, and they turned you down, it could be one of several reasons:
1) you live in an area they simply do not go into freqeuntly, making home time for you next to impossible.
2) they have way too many applicants now
3) there might be a problem with your background
4) you might not qualify for government assistance through any sponsored government grants the schools get, meaning they just won't accept your application, because you don't live in a depressed area requiring job assistance
5) health reasons, criminal reasons, past history of employment reasons, and perhaps many more reasons.
i'd like to see you go to school and get started, but you gotta find out the real reason why you are being rejected, if even from the big companies THAT DO TRAIN YOU...........

I was up in Iowa where CRST had their Truck driver training school and it looked like they recruited their new drivers at greyhound bus terminals. They openly joked around about things like having bad credit and CRSTs training. LOL I fit right in though I did not want to let any change fall out of my pocket. No insult to you but heck all you need is the experience you might as well try them.

What about TMC, they sure have some sweet rides, flatbed would suck at times but I bet there would be lots of advantages as well, I know nothing about them but they sure look good.
