Your company sponsers their drivers that want to sign up.
The rodeos on a State level are two days, usually Friday & Saturday.

You have to submit an enterance form, along with a fee which your company will pay.
You will receive a small book on safety,DOT regulations, and other important trucking information, about two,or three months before the rodeo.
Theres a test on that book the first day, also that day theres a pre-trip inspection test.

Your company will also pay milage, and a full days pay for Friday,as well as any hotel rooms, for you, your spouse, and anyother family members.

For the pre-trip the officials do about 10 things to the rig you'll be driving, and you will get points for finding each item, theres also a time limit.
You have to pick out a truck,or tractor your not used to driving, from donated company equipment.
The next day theres a breakfast, thats usually paid for by your company.
Then you will receive a number for your turn, the officals will have your truck,or combination ready to go,at the starting line.

You will be timed for driving in,and around obsticals, they say this course is like your every day driving.
But no way I've been in three so far,and if you don't practise with this course before hand, you won't do very good the day of the rodeo.
You'll receive points for every thing, and you'll get a DQ if you should miss any of this courses spots.
Later in the evening theres a very good dinner, for everyone including spouses, and family members,as well as anyone of your supervisors,or TM that comes to it.
Thats when the trophies are awarded.
The first place winner gets to go to the nationals, after all of the States are done.
There are also second, and third, but of course number one is the best.
Well thats about it,I'm sure I may of left a lot out.
I'm going to New York States rodeo this weekend its in Liverpool NY just outside of Syracuse for anyone here thats interested.

Default Truck Rodeo

Thank you so much for replying. You'll never no how much it means to me. A man was going back home from one in Indiana. When he was close to IDOT he crossed the center line and hit mom and dad head on killing my father. June 22, 2007. I didn't know what the event was about. But i thank you sincerely. CURDBURNS

Oh I'm very sorry to hear about your folks.
The one very important item I left out is that you can't have any accidents for one complete year to even qualify for this contest in the first place.
The only accident that might get a pass is if your parked, with the motor off,and someone hits you.
But for the most part this event is to promote safe driving.

LTL companies are willing to shell out a lot of money to sponser their drivers just for the bragging rights of their employees taking part in it.

So sorry iI just got this reply today. 07/12/07 because I don't really know how to get the replys to my questions. Thank you though for your thoughts of condolence. I'm 50 and I had talked to my dad on father's day and several times the week before. We were planning a trip to see them the week of the 4th. They say things happen for a reason. I don't know. It seems rather sensless to me. Dad was my Hero. I could ask him anything but he would tell me all the time I was crazy. He loved all my stupid corney jokes too. Thank you

I'm truly sorry about your folks. Thats gotta be rough. Truck rodeos are a fun family event. I have participated in 5 of them, my kids love them. The trucking companies ususally try to outdo each other put on quite a shing dig for us. Its usually free food for everybody and they'll have bouncehouses and facepainting for the kids. Like I said I truly am sorry about your folks and my heart and prayers go out to you and your family but dont let this tragedy sour you on the rodeos.
