Default City Driving

I am thinking of changing careers and becoming a truck driver. One thing that worries me is city driving. The largest city I have ever driven in (a car) is Kansas City. How much harder is it to drive a truck in city traffic. What if you make a wrong turn and get lost?

if your already worried and haven't even got in a rig yet then maybe it's just not for you. maybe you have a blind misconception what trucking is really all about and just want to see the country. save some money at your current job and go travel, in a car.

You are never lost if you have fuel.

State Hwys. and Interstates

Even numbers run east-west

Odd numbers run north-south

In town there are always cops or gas stations to get directions from.

Theres nothin` to city drivin` not as bad as you think it is. I used to haul concert equipment and many of our shows were in arena`s in downtown locations.....we rolled with 8 trucks and 6 busses and never had a problem getting around the city.

Don`t let it intimidate you.........good luck!

I just came home from work and saw this and laughed.. Man when you first start you will usually get the crap... I just came home from running New York City and you are worried about getting lost, what about putting a 53ft trailer in a garage like dock with cars honking and trying to get around you.... Or low bridges there seem to be on every street in new york.. But with all that said there is nothing like the brotherhood of truckers and I would not change it if I could. Anyway good luck and dont get lost

Milby if you are really serious about driving then get over your fear of big city real fast because just about every company runs into big cities someplace.Chicago,New York,LA,or Atlanta. Like was said earlier it ain't all that bad.First time fears? We all had em.I ran mostly New England area in my 30 year trucking career and nothing is worse than Boston. Just remember NEVER look people directly in the eyes when driving in town.Little trick I learned a long time ago when I first started driving and went into Manhattan,New York.I was told when going around corners take as much room as you think you need and never look people directly in the eyes because once you do that you will be the one backing up and giving room.Relax and go with the flow. Good Luck
