Gambling Advice From A Dealer About To Become A Driver

I posted this in reply to somebodys question in another forum but I figured I would share the advice with all of you in thanks for all your help getting started in this industry.

Well, here is some general advice that you should follow if you want the casino edge to be the lowest:

21: Second lowest house advantage if played properly. Go online and print out a little cheat sheet for when to hit, double, etc. specific to the number of decks you will be playing. For example "single deck cheat sheet" or "single deck strategy" will pull up a cheat sheet to use at the casinos. The biggest problem I see is players not hitting, doubling, etc. when they are supposed to. For example not hitting 16 when dealer shows 7-A. Everytime you do not follow basic strategy the house edge increases. Next, make sure you play where you can double on anything and get paid 3-2 for blackjack. In Reno, most casino's will pay 3-2 but only allow you to double on 10 or 11. If you take 6-5 on blackjacks they will allow you to double on anything (huge house advantage). Boomtown and Sienna I know allow you to double on anything and pay 3-2. I am sure there are other casinos that allow this in Reno, but I am not sure who. As a general rule, the larger the casino here the less liberal the 21 rules are. Eldorado, Silver Legacy, Circus-Circus, and Harrah's have the least liberal rules for example.

Dice: Lowest house advantage if played properly. The secret to this game is to have the bankroll to finance the ups and downs to this game. You can play properly with minimum bets and still walk away a big loser because the dice can stay bad for long periods of time (on the flip side though, they can stay hot for long periods of time). General rules to follow on this game is to find the tables with the lowest minimum bets and the highest odds allowed (casino has 0, yes 0 advantage on odds); circus-circus has a $2 game most of the time with 3-4-5 odds. Best bet is to call the casino and ask for "the pit" and ask them what the table minimum is for dice and max odds allowed. If you go to an area with a bunch of casinos in a small area like downtown reno, Wendover, etc. walk around to the dice games and look for a table with green and black chips all over the numbers in front of the dealer and people screaming a lot! This is your first clue that the table is hot! Dice run in streaks sometimes and being in the right place at the right time can make you a heck of a lot of money. But, be warned that they can change the other way just as fast. You need to know when to get in, get out, or have the bankroll to wait for the dice to change. If you find a $2 - $3 table and have a $500 bankroll you should be able to play long enough to wait out a bad run of the dice if your playing properly.

Ok, now that you have found a hot table or have the bankroll to finance bad runs, here is how to play:

1) Always bet the house minimum on the pass line or don't pass line (I am just going to explain the pass in this post) and take full odds allowed; 3-4-5 or 10X etc. The house has no advantage on the money you take in odds. You get paid the "true risk of the event happening," for example if the point is 6 you get paid even money on the line, but the money you place behind the bet for odds get paid 6-5 which is the true odds of 6 rolling before a 7. 6-8 pay 6-5, 5-9 pay 3-2, and 4-10 pay 2-1. If you dont know how much you can place for odds ask the dealer "what is max odds I can take" and he will tell you. If you look at the little info plate next to the dealer on the table it will also tell you max odds. For example 2X, 10X, 3-4-5 etc. It is telling you how many times your pass line bet you can take for odds. 3-4-5 means 3X on the 4-10, 4X on the 5-9 and 5X on the 6-8.

2) Use a betting strategy. A good basic strategy is start with $2 with full odds, and if point is made, bet $4 with full odds, then $6, then $6 again, $10, $15, $25, $40, $40, $50, $75, $100. If at anytime the dice 7-out start again with your base bet (You can also use this betting strategy for 21). If the game is a $5 game you need to adjust accordingly, for example, 5, 10, 15, 15, 25, etc.

3) DO NOT bet on anything on the dice table except pass line with odds or come bet with odds (I will explain that next). Do not make place bets, hard ways, yo bets, c&e's, horn bets, hop bets, field bets, or EVER put any money on the big 6&8 boxes.

4) Come bets are the same as a pass line bet once a point is established. Put the table minimum there and if 7-11 rolls you win, 2-3-12 you lose, any other number the money will move to that number and you can take odds just like the pass line except the dealer will stack your odds on top of your come bet. If that number rolls again before 7 you win even money on the flat bet and you get paid odds on your odds bet just like the pass line. If 7 rolls you lose. I will make one come bet along with my pass line bet for every point that is made on the pass line. For example one point made on the pass line I will make sure I have a line bet and a come bet. Two pass line bets made I will ensure that I have two come bets etc. This way your making the dice work for you and if 7-out happens I start with the original minimum bet.

TIPPING THE DEALER (The most important thing most customers do not know): Dealers make minumum wage for the most part and live off their tips. Proper courtesy is to make bets for your dealers in lieu of tipping them when you leave. As a general rule on 21 if your winning, bet for the dealer by placing their wager in front of yours (bet the lesser color your playing, for example if your playing red, bet white, playing green, bet red.) Playing dice, place their bet next to yours on the pass line and place their odds behind their bet. Dealers will respect you and go out of their way to help you and answer any questions you have.

DO NOT PLAY SLOT MACHINES, OR ANY OTHER CASINO GAMES EXCEPT 21 OR DICE! The house advantage is significantly higher! If you just want to play for fun and do not care about the house advantage, go ahead and enjoy them.
