First-Hey to everyone!
Please bear with another newbie with probably the same old questions. I am currently 39 years old, married with 2 almost grown kids (16&19) one of which is on her own. Due to a great # of factors, we are looking at closing a business we've been in for 15 years. Long story short-we're wondering about trucking. Our favorite part of vacation was always just the traveling and being together on the road. We often talked of wanting to some day be able to drive around the country. So-is it realistic that I could acquire a CDL through the schools I have researched, graduate, shop companies hiring, and us conceivably travel together-coast to coast initially, then more regional later? We are not primarily concerned with home time and being home every weekend. She cannot drive due to a disability but can travel. Can we do this together (for the most part, realistically) and come away with a decent living? We have no retirement from our current/previous careers (just a lifetime of paying the bills) and the thought of haing a 401K after 15-20 years is appealing. I have so many questions. Of the research I've done so far, objectively, the greatest drawback/complaint of those I've talked to is the home time issue. Any an all advice would be appreciated from those really doing it. Thank you
