First of all, you chose some good questions to start your career off with. I am guessing that you would need training so I'm a little partial to my humble beginnings. I didn't pay a cent for my training I went with Schneider National. They were great and started me off on the right track especially seeing as how I'm still driving and liking it. I'd choose one of those as a start and wouldn't pay unless I had too. Anyways, on to your questions. Again, being new you can be home with a company like Schneider at least a weekend every three weeks, depending on where you live and all. It sounds like you'd be happy with that and really the longer you stay out the more time you can get at home. Most of the companies these days are 2 days off for week out, which is alot better than when I started. They run Canada and the whole 48 so at least you'll see the country with them. Once you get about two years in you can get onto one of those "at home weekly "carriers. It's alot easier on you though to stay out and run for a while than to try and get home every weekend. It's sad to say but it was for me. 7 days to get your miles instead of 5 days to get them is alot easier and you can be more relaxed than trying to beat feet home all the time. Just my opinion though, so take it from a sixteen year long haul and now local LTL driver home every night. Good luck to you and if you need any help just let me know I'd be glad to assist. cwnut
