Default GPS for Truckers

Does anyone know of a good GPS unit for drivers? I was wondering if someone made a unit that told you information with regards too commercial vehicles.

Does anyone have one or know of a good one? If so, what's something like that cost?

To the best of my knowledge the only truck specific gps porogram is put out by ALK technologies under the product name PC MILER. They offer a pretty new program called CoPilot Truck (a laptop computer program for drivers using a laptop)and CoPilot Live (for a pocket pc)which piggybacks off of PC Milers truck specific routing software. I have used PC Milers routing software in my laptop for years (older version without gps capability) and have been pleased with it. It takes a little time and practice to get used to but once you do you may find yourself not even looking at an atlas anymore for your trip planning. The gps enabled function claims to give written, mapped, and spoken directions from dock to dock. The cost is about 300.00 bucks though and you must be sure your laptop meets the system requirements to run this software.
As for the stand alone products such as TOM TOM and Garmin I would not bother with these because they are designed for auto use and may get you in a world of trouble (such as routing you on a restricted truck route or even worse put you on the wrong side of a low underpass.
By the way should you decide to purchase the software it is tax deductible too so be sure to keep your receipt for tax time!
