Here are some links for you to read that cover hours for team drivers. Basically you
must have eight
consecutive hours in the hours in the bunk and the other two may be off duty, bunk, or a combination of the two. There is no more splitting the hours between the bunk and driving.

If you run Canada you must be complaint with their rules when you enter and then compliant with the US rules when you re-enter. Neither county cares abut the others rules.

You said the your are a recent grad. Might want to re-review the information on teams hours they should have given you. My guess is that you are getting confused by listening to your spouse and what you learned.
Don't even
think of running on the others log. All it takes is one minor mistake and you have a serious HOS violation. Run legal and safe. I have been pulled over for headlight out at 10 AM (light rain) and one tail light out (2 AM) both with a log book check.
Also be aware that there is a court ruling that the 34 hour reset and the eleven hours driving
MAY change on Sept. 14 if the appeal is denied. It will go back to ten hours driving, no reset and 60 hours/7 days or 70 hours/8 days.
