Has Anyone used a wireless internet card in their Laptop?

hey,

i may be doing some traveling soon, and since i am taking online classes for college i need to have internet access.

I see AT&T and Sprint both offer mobile broadband cards for laptops.

Has anyone ever tried these?

I never used a card,but i have use my cell phone as a modem to connect to the internet on my laptop.I paid 20 dollars for the service through my mobile phone provider,plus the aol charge.

I know someone that has the Verizon Air Card. He pays $60 a month for the service but says it works pretty good.

yeah, awhile ago, i used my cell phone as a modem, but now it see its the same price at the PC card..... so i will probably go with the card.

thanks, yeah, that the same price as Sprint..... AT&T is $80/month

We have one from AT&T for $80 or $90 per month. It works really well anywhere you can get a strong signal for your cell phone.

WiFi is typically faster, but in many cases requires a subscription (like T-Mobile hotspots cost about $40/month - that is what all the Starbux i have seen are using for example). It also requires you are near one of their hotspots (truck stops, hotels, motels, restaurants). Wireless adapters for these are usually built into most laptops sold within the last year or two.

If you need to be able to connect from the middle of a corn field, you might consider the mobile phone company's offer. If you want to save a few bucks and are willing to connect when your are near a place with WiFi, that is another option. (Many places offer it for free as well - Like Panera Bread restaurants and many others).

What do the larger truck stops charge for subscriptions to their wireless (WiFi) services? Do they work OK?
