If the Kansas City Transfer station gets up and running, it will affect all of us. Once this station is operable, you will most likely see LTL freight consolidated and then have a mexican driver pick up the whole kit and kaboodle. Plus overseas conatiner ships will be diverted from US ports to Mexican ports, so say good bye to Longshoremen jobs and pier pick ups as the Mexicans will haul it from point of entry to destination. Dockworkers, OTR, TL, and LTL will all feel the pinch of this policy. Maybe even a dispatcher, or TM or 2.
Will it affect general labor? Well why not play out this scenario and tell me what you think.
Mexican driver gets to destination and customer says ...."ok Pedro, I need those 100 cartons packed out into my warehouse." I'm sure Pedro will be more than happy to oblige, or else he might not be coming back to that customer.
