Question New to trucking - questions???

hello every one,
i just graduated cdl school and am new to the industry
I have a couple of questions- some advice pls
1. which is the better choice City driving/dockworker program @ yellow freight
IE per hr pay with union or
OTR driving with a company like Old Dominion/ Gordorn / interstate / dipietro
non union cpm pay.
2. Who makes more city drivers or OTR company drivers

I would like to drive and see the country but also have atleast 1 -2 days home time per week wit the wife. But am in it for to make money
Thankx

1 - Yellow is going to be better than any of those companies hands down. Yellow is going to be harder to get into though, especially for a rookie driver.

By the way, Old Dominion is also a LTL (less than truckload) carrier like Yellow.

2 - In general, LTL city drivers are going to make more than OTR TL (truckload) drivers.

Default still undecided

i know yellow is union and that unions help protect their workers when in situations and that is always a good thing to have in addition to their benefits. They start you off as a dock worker then you go thru their driver training.
Old dominion train , their benefits are good and starting pay is better than yfc.
what a choice

I would check and see if OD has lay-offs..If Yellow out there is like here you can count on it late in the year.. OD may be a more secure place as far as starting out but I believe Yellow beats hands down over the long-haul..

Unhappy benefits

i read somewhere that the benefits from being in union are better than non union jobs.
Now does one pay for benefits from your pay or is it from your union dues ?
Non union jobs you pay for benefits from your pay right?

Union members pay union dues. Unionized companies pay for the health insurance.

Most LTL carriers have a monthly premium for their health insurance plan.
