Default Off to school soon...

I am anxiously waiting for my month long school training to start. I am so grateful to have these great forums to study in the meanwhile. I have been busy studying for my CDL, putting together my little Peterbuilt tractor hobby model, and watching Ice Road Truckers to pass the time while the state of Texas approves my school funding (no indentured servant here...)

I can't wait to drive a BIG truck, but as a petite woman I wonder if the seat will scoot forward enough. I have two kiddos (10 and 14) so I will be looking for a job where I can be home every night. (City driving in the DFW area) The guy at the truck driving school said he would like to see me get on with Coca Cola. (Any coke dealers out there?)
I think I'd look quite nice driving a big red truck and that way everyone else can see me coming from WAY off!

Well Boppingsquirrel, I wish you the best, however one of the best lessons you can learn out here is how to spot the "morons" in front, beside, behind, you while driving. Your gonna be alot greater in length, and alot heavier in order to stop. It's a reflex thing. Soooo many people dont realize this when they get around a vehicle that weighs 3 times as much and is 4 times larger. Best of Luck!!!

Boppingsquirrel,
Welcome to Truckingboards. Your size won't matter as you can move the seat way forward. Many small women drive and you'll be fine. Be sure to pay attention in school and if they don't teach it, ask why they don't emphasize courtesy to other trucks. That's one of the things us oldtimers have noticed for several years now. A lot of newbies don't use turn signals either. It has always made me wonder just who's doing the teaching. Be safe.

Default Petite Woman

Unless you have "guns" like Serena Williams, you might reconsider coke job. They hustle harder than UPS P&D drivers. Try stocking a cooler after a busy weekend. They don't have time to chit-chat for a reason. Driving is the easy part.

I was thinking the same thing. A Coca Cola city driver is like a local beer driver.....lots and lots of lifting cases of heavy product.

You'll do fine, Dear... I guarantee it!
We had a little gal that drove with us for many years, here at Yellow in Atlanta. She was about 5'2", maybe 100 lbs. and she drove the daylights out of those old wore out trucks with no power steering or any other amentities to speak of. But she did have a big, padded seat cushion to sit on.
I think sometimes she would have to dang near stand up in the seat to crank the wheel on some of those old huff & puffs (I know I feel like I had to, once in a while), and she done just fine...
After you get acclimated to all of this, you'll figure out what all will work best for you, comfort wise...
