| | Recruiter Meeting & Team Driving
Well we went and met with the Schneider recruiter. Seemed like an Okay guy, but did notice he did not want to give direct answers. I did find out some very interesting information for those folks who don't want to sign that 18 month contract. They no longer have you sign a contract, which I thought was great and the pay for a newbie (like me, possibly) is up around .34cpm. I had my "125" questions for him, I know, I know OCD, what can I say, this would be a huge change for us, I needed all the details and questions answered. A few questions I couldn't get him to commit on, but we'll talk again. Anyway he really pushed us for the Team Driving, but really, 10 hours per day per person...that's 20 hours a day that truck is rolling. Is the $$$ really worth it? I mean when do you get the chance to have a life, get out of the truck to get some exercise when there is only 4 hours of your day left? Are there companies out there that do the team driving that don't expect 10 hours of driving each day for each person? We would really like to truck together, but I am not able to drive 10 hours per day. Is there still a chance for us?
Thanks all,

I'd doubt that you would be driving for 10 hrs per day every day. That's only best (or worst) case scenario depending on how you look at it. Remember that you only have 60 hours per week to drive, and some of that is going to be spent loading/unloading, fueling, inspecting, etc. There might not always be enough freight for you to max out your hours either.
Other than that, schnieder has a great payscale for team drivers, compared to the rest of the TL carriers.

Thanks all, | actually, its driving for 11 hours per day.........and yes, it IS EXPECTED that you drive all those hours, because the freight has to move. if a driver (solo or team) cannot pull thier weight, then the company will most certainly make that person run shorter runs and earn way less than everyone else. then, that person would just up and quit. you really better face up to some cold hard facts. trucking is a JOB, not a paid sight-seeing tour of the country. you gotta do what's expected of you, or else say good-bye.

If you don't want to run very hard, you better get on with Swift.
They let you run as slow as you want.
Especially if you are an owner operator.
They give you plenty of time to make your trip. Would not hurt to ask them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
