New York, NY (AHN) - A gloomy employment report touched off a round of selling Friday, sending shares into a triple-digit downward spiral. The losses renewed talk of recession and potential Federal Reserve intervention.
The Labor Department said nonfarm employees fell by 4,000 in August, a number not seen since about four years. The nation's unemployment rate also was flat, remaining at 4.6 percent as more people stopped looking for jobs.
