Default Question

Hello!

I am David Hren from Slovenia.
I have one question.
Have you problem whit police, because of hour of driving.
How much hour dou you allowed drive in one day, and if you must have a brake how much is it.
Have you some device to measure your driving time?

We are allowed to drive 9 hours in one day, and during this 9 hours we must have 45 minute brake(pause).
And when you take over this 9 hours off driving you must have 9 hours of break (sleep).

Example:
Drive 4 hours 30 minute and 45 minute breake (pause) and drive 4 hours 30 minute stop and 9 hours of break (sleep).

We have also problems whit police, they have a lot of examination on the road.
And they can check us because we must have in truck one device which write on a round paper time and speed of driving.

OK
greetings

We currently have no tattletale device (other than gps tracking) that allows DOT or Police to compare our written logs to. There are many agencies in this country that are attempting to have electronic on board recorders(eobr's) installed on all trucks as well as governors but nothing has been passed into law yet.
Our current hours of service are very simple to understand. We have been given a 14 hour window of time to complete our assignments in. At the end of that 14 hour window we are supposed to stop for a 10 hour break. During the aforementioned 14 hour clock we are currently permitted to drive up to 11 hours. We are limited further by a total of 60 hours in a 7 day period or 70 hours in an 8 day period. Depending upon wether the company works 7 days a week or 6. Many companies do not work on sundays and only work part of Saturday so in their case they would have to use the 60 hr in 7 day rule.
As for mandatory breaks there is only the 10 hour break after 11 hours of driving (or reached the end of the 14 hour time frame) that is required. We use our own discretion as to when to stop and eat use the restroom etc.
Our 10 hr break can be divided between off duty and sleeper berth time as the driver sees fit (provided the time adds up to 10 hours consecutively).
As for enforcement here in the United States we have weigh stations throughout each state where the vehicle is weighed and our federal DOT number is checked for compliance in the scale masters database. Random roadside inspections do happen here as well as plenty of police scrutiny in general. We must abide by the laws in each state we pass through. For the drivers who violate the law they are ticketed and heavy fines are imposed. We do have the option of going to court and fighting the charges on our own or hiring a lawyer to fight for us.
As for police actually extorting money from drivers that is not a problem here. The police write the ticket and then let you go.
While there have been instances of corruption exposed in the police departments here in the US. They are few and far between.
