Default Sorry we are not interested!

I recently asked a few recruiters about past injuries and the effect it would have on me landing a job with them. I was told to contact them once I finished my training and we would discuss it then. I didn't like the fact that they would not answer my question then. I have had my ACL replaced twice back in the early 90's and have since worked hard to get my knee back into shape. Although it will never be at 100%, I have it above 90%. Will I have a problem finding quality companies to hire me?

Dirtball is right ,,don't volunteer any info with any of these companies. They may consider you an work-comp risk.Plus if you are ok now then why bring it up.. I was gunshot in the gut in a rest area robbery 15 years ago it caused a few problems for a while but I never mentioned it to any employer ""just in case""

I had three vertebrae in my neck fused back in 2003. When I had my DOT physical for the company I'm with now, the doctor asked me about the surgical scar. I should have told him it was a knife wound or something.

I spent an extra day at orientation on the phone with the doctor who did the surgery trying to get him to fax a release saying I was cleared to drive a truck. He wanted to see me first (he was in Illinois, I was in Memphis), and the company was going to make me get home on my own dime, get the clearance, then get back to Memphis on my own dime again before they'd hire me. I finallly browbeat the doctor into faxing a release, but it ended up costing me two days for which I wasn't paid before I was assigned a truck.

If you don't have to divulge it, don't.

I appreciate all of the input and unfortunately find it to be a concern I can not overlook. I recently worked for an insurance company and know that anyone can view your medical, credit and public records regardless of what the law says. I just don't want to put the time in getting my CDL and find out I am not being considered by good companies because of my past injury.

I would not be concerned about it and I would not tell them about it if I did not have to. When they have you fill out physical papers, read all the questions. A lot of people will incriminate themselves by answering a question one way then answering roughly the same question another way. As long as you can pass the physical combined with the age of the surgery, you should be OK.
