The trouble I see is some states want to restrict trucks to certain lanes so they can make them lanes toll lanes.. Next question is what happens when you get behind someone who can not or will not run the speed limit ? Are you stuck or will you be able to pass them ? Actually I think its a way for states to make more money.

Great points and I agree that all of the states use things of this nature to generate money for their pockets. My sociology teacher would ask EVERY class: Are laws made to be followed or to be broken? The older I get the more I believe many laws are made to be broken.

Default Truck Lanes

Illinois restricts trucks from the left lane on the Tristate toll road, we have had drivers get tickets. The problem is when you have drivers running next to each other trying to pass with trucks governed so they take 5 miles to get by. I drove in Germany where they had no overtaking for trucks in certain areas, with only one lane available. You just got in line and followed each other, but the speed limit was 80 kph (48 mph) so you were not going to jump out and hammer down anyway.

You are so right,of course it's about money!! This is why a CDL costs more to renew even after the initial test. This is what the hazmat fingerprint test nonsense is about; revenue. Those pilots on 9/11 certainly had prints on file, and if terrorists want that hazmat truck, poor Joe Trucker will end up with the same fate whether he paid 100 bucks for fingerprints or not! Follow the money trail. It's an employment tax!
