Question Just got my Class A CDL

Hey everyone,

Today I just received my Class A CDL, I am so proud of myself and I was so nervous I really didn't think I'd get it. I don't have my CDL manual with me right now (for Minnesota), and if I did have it I wouldn't be asking the following question.

I'd like to know since I now have a Class A CDL (truck/trailer combo up to 80,000 GVWR), does this mean I can drive Class B and Class C trucks now too?

I mean Class A is like the biggest one, it's pretty much the king of all CDL categories. So if I wanted to take up a job soon driving a straight truck (Class B I believe), could I or would I have to take a whole other test just for the Class B?

It would only make sense to me that if you're capable of driving a Class A, you're pretty much capable of driving a B, C, etc. Am I not correct?

Thanks,
Chev454

Congratulations chevy454,
You Should be very proud, I hope to be able to say the same thing in about 5 weeks.

From what I understand with a CDLA you can drive anything except busses, for that you need to get a passenger endorsment.
But I could be wrong.

Good Luck and Keep on Trucking!

I just got mine today too. The examiner said my downshifts were a little grindy sometimes but otherwise no hits. No problem on the grindy shifts, I wanna drive for Maverick and they are all auto's.
Tommorow is the final test at the school and Thursday is graduation day.

I think NiteMover is correct about what you can drive now.
