in my sordid past, i drove for 2 owner-operators. each paid me a percentage of the LOAD, not empty miles. needless to say, the O/O's made out better than me........
i will NEVER work percentage again, but then, at 20 years of driving, i don't have to lower myself to that sort of slave wage.
you worked for a 'small company", so i'll just surmise that benefits and such were not available...?? if so, blow them off, you CAN DO better.
it should ALWAYS be the drivers choice to route him/her self rather than the company. then, if you need EXACT directions, at least you're in the area.
companies that ask or nearly demand that any driver avoid toll roads aren't watching expenses, they are avoiding "time stamped" data for the log book, making them DEMAND you run extra hours........
