Default Can anyone recommend a decent, reliable 7.5 tonne lorry please!?

Hey guys,

I apologise in advance if I've put this on the wrong forum, but I'm not really very clued up on this at all.

My dad always had Mercedes lorries in the past (814s I believe) which he was generally happy with, but he was advised not to purchase a new Mercedes due to awful build quality/reliability (I've no idea how reliable his source was!) - as a result, he went out and purchased an equivalent MAN which is proving to be an absolute nightmare and has constant niggling faults.

He's considering getting another, I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations to save him buying something that's going to cause him a lot of hassle again. Or was he just unlucky with this and MAN are usually pretty good?

Cheers

Welcome, You will find that most of the drivers here are from the States and a few Canadians. I dare say that most wouldn't know a "lorrie" if it ran over them. Much less a MAN. As with any truck some swear by one brand and the other swears at them.

Good luck in finding what you need and feel free to post here. The more the merrier. We all do the same thing but it is always interesting to hear how it is done in another country.

Yeah what he said. Good to have you with us. I do know about MAN. They used to build a few in my state of North Carolina a few years back. They build Freightliners in that plant now.

We do the same thing but we sure do tell it in a different manner. It's always fun to read about how you folks do it in the UK. Trucking that is.

can someone at least explain what a "lorry" is please....???

i'm thinking maybe its a 'boggie' or a "dolly", but i ain't sure..............

never mind, i "googled" and got my answer:

"Lorry is a British term but is only used for the medium and heavy types (see below), i.e. a van, a pickup or a Jeep would never be regarded as a "lorry".

i would think that "over there", Scania would be available, as well as Volvo's.............???

Yeah, a lorry is basically a truck, sorry about posting it here, I guess I kinda did it without thinking! I guess since MAN don't make trucks over where you are, a lot of the other companies (all companies!?) are pretty much separate too. Cheers for the replies though!
