Question your top 5 choices for new inexperienced drivers

Ok, I'm a newbie (start CDL school in a few days), and I've been surfing / reading/ studying everything I can find about professional trucking.

I'm single, self-content, have plenty of time on my hands, so I am thinking OTR (nation wide) would be a good start for me. Right now, I'm living in metro-Atlanta.

Here's my question.

Right now (November, 2007), knowing what you know now, what 5 - 10 trucking companies would be your top choices for your first application/interview (your first job)?

So far, I'm leaning toward Schneider at a top choice.

Your choices? Comments? Wisdom?

I'm realistic enough to know that gripes and praise are aimed at all companies from all directions, so I'm not counting on a "bed or roses" so to speak.

The more I read (and watch on YouTube) the more I'm enjoying the goods about Schneider, and the more I'm aiming toward OTR solo driving for starters.

Teaming is such a delicate tight rope when one doesn't know anyone else (yet). I have no aversions to it (at face value), but I would think a successful team would count on a good mix between individuals. Given the right mix, I would think team driving could work wonders for the drivers and the company.

Anyway, I'm looking forward it all.

All the best to all of you.

I would look at the following;
1. Crete
2. Smith Transport
3. Gainey
4. Roehl
5. Schneider
6. Us Xpress
7. Barr Nunn
8. Estes
9. Epes
10.CFI
All seem to be reputable outfits but I am not sure how much experience is needed to get on with them.

i have no "wisdom" as my "wisdom" teeth were removed many years ago.

i have no choices, as i think all the OTR companies are the same.

my only comment(s) would be that there are better job avenues than trucking, but if you're all "heck-bent" on getting into trucking, than go with your first "gut-instinct" on many of your choices.
