Default I Really Want to Know

Let me start by saying that I expect to be incinerated for say this. I am not trying to be insensitive or mean spirited. So... here goes.

Why do people spend the time and energy to put together roadside memorials when a loved one dies in a wreck? I don't see the point. I understand that it is a tribute to the passing of a loved one, but it just seems like the wrong place. People die in all kinds of places yet you don't see a memorial set-up when someone dies of a heart attack at a local market. No one displays a tribute when the clerk at a convienience store is shot and killed. So what makes a highway death so much more tragic or emotional?? I really wish someone would tell me.
Once again, I'm not being insensitive here, I just find it to be a foolish practice.

I don't mean to be insensitive or mean spirited either. I hope you never experience what these people have experienced. If you do be sure and come back and see if you can explain the answer to your question. Maybe we won't think it's too foolish.

some people need closure Maynard, it's just a way for people to help achieve it.

I lost a good friend a few weeks ago to an unfortunate accident. I cant explain to you how I feel because I dont think you have a sensitive side if you had to ask this. We (friends and coworkers) came together and did something for closure. It helped ALL of us deal with it and go on.

I understand the desire for a memorial, I worry more about the danger the people are in as they place the memorial and the hazard they present hanging out on the side of a busy interstate.
