Default When Wind is a Problem

I've been driving about 6 months and been in high winds and everything else. I'm going through 60 mph gusts, tonight, driving an empty refer trailer with triple axles back from Cody, WY. I've had it slide a little before with 50 mph gusts. When is it time to pull over to be safe?

"When is it time to pull over to be safe?"
just before the wind blows you over...........!!! (j/k)

there just isn't any specific time here. i personally have been through hurricanes, tornados, high cross winds over bridges, etc,etc...........

its subjectional as to when YOU should pull over. heck, if you were (for instance) to pull over every time a strong wind blows, you'd be parking nearly every day, now wouldn't you...???

i usually reduce my speed, and go on...............

in the instance of the tornado i got into, i could see the funnel from a distance, and i pulled over and waited it out. i was out "in the open" so to speak, no bridge or overpass to hide under. i was at the mercy of the tornado.............

end result.........???

it rocked my truck back and forth..........then went away.............and then so did i..............

A simple rule to follow for any circumstance is: "If in doubt, Wait it out."

"Way back when", I had 2 combines on a drop deck trailer, with cross winds about 60 MPH. The roads were icy, and the deck was tilted about 10 degrees. I had to have the combines back to the auction yard that day, and I had 200 miles to go. Slow down and drive with caution. Drove out of the wind in about 50 miles, and I was avble to make a safe delivery on time.

I've been pulling doubles for 20 years. Sometimes MT. 60 mph wind I'd stay home.

Default Winds

Well, the winds can be a big surprise for you guys. If it is strong enough to overturn and it is too late when your rig is already turned over! One time I had to leave my Mack in 17th gear all the way from West to midstate....just use your best judgement. Your boss will be happy if your load still ride on those 18 wheels.
