Truck drivers are now getting harrassed at truck stops!

Special detail’ wakes up truckers at Flying J in Illinois
Rick Donais deals with inspections multiple times every week.
Donais, an OOIDA member from Ontario, Canada, hauls car parts north from
McAllen, TX, and regularly works with customs officials on both U.S. borders
and at weigh stations in between.
But on Friday, Nov. 30, Donais awoke about 7 a.m. to a policeman knocking on
his window asking to search his Volvo dry van. He was at the Flying J truck
stop in Effingham, IL near Interstate 70 and Interstate 57.
Donais allowed an officer to look through his cab and allowed a K-9 officer
to inspect his trailer, he told Land Line.

I personally do not agree with or like it but this is something that has been allowed for as long as I can remember.And the reason being that it is allowed is because we are federally regulated..I've only ever been waken up once in a truck stop and had my truck searched and that was because of a robbery nearby and the cops thought the guys were hiding out in one of the trucks.

In canada we have a legal statute called 'reasonable grounds' to obtain a warrant to search. Now as a foreigner in another country it gets dicey to say no but this sounds well ignorant of the cops to be wakeing people up when they were just snooping with no legit reason to be conducting the investigation.

That is just wrong. If they are going to do this they should be looking at trucks that are rollin down the road or set up at the weigh stations.
