ok, Prime is a reefer company, but they still haul other types of freight as well. they have owner-operators and company drivers. you can become an owner-operator with Prime, through thier "lease to own" plan.

but, Prime had been and probably still is in a lot of hot water regarding thier lease/purchase plans. they will control the freight. one week they will give you all the freight you can handle, the next week they will starve you, all the while, you still have to make weekly payments to them.

as a company driver, its pretty much like any other trucking company. you might get home as promised, you might not.

personally a long time ago i did my homework, and found that the lease/purchase plan stinks. maybe it changed, but who knows.

if you just want a driving job for the experience, and they have pre-hired you, then go and get your experience at least.

Thanks for the information. I did get an approval from Prime. I got my CDL/A back in July but never did anything with it. I want to drive and they seemed to be upfront about everything I asked about unlike CR England when I went there for the few day I was in their orientation. I was just wondering if it was going to be worth the 17 hour bus ride or not. Thanks again, B

IMO, From everything I have heard, rumors inuendo and the what not, if starting out, I would go to Schneider. Supposedly, they'll run your butt off and you'll actually get your paycheck. As a newbie, those are probably the best 2 things you can expect in a driving job.

Schneider won't hire me because of where I live, Eastern MI. I have been accepted by Stevens and a couple others but Prime seemed to have the best feedback from within. I asked here because I wanted driver feedback. Thanks again, B

Don't walk away from Prime... RUN!!! They will try to shove their lease purchase down your throat at orientation. I have not met one driver that has been successful with it. Most lease operators get starved out like the previous poster said. Afterwards, your credit will be ruined and Prime will go after you for a large sum of money.

The lease purchase is not designed to benefit the driver. It is designed to make the company large sums of money. They will keep leasing the same truck over and over again. The point of a lease purchase is for a driver to eventually own the truck outright. That will never happen when you are seet up for failure from the start.

Besides, in a L/P agreement, YOU are responsible for fuel and repairs on a vehicle you are renting from the company! LOL!! What a friggin joke! When that truck breaks down, it's YOUR dime. I'm suprised Prime's L/P is legal given the astronomical failure rate.

As far as being a company driver for them, which they really don't want you to be in the first place, there are much better alternatives. Do your research, take your time, and don't hop on with the first carrier that offers you a job.

If you decide to go with Prime and fail, don't expect sympathy from anyone. Just scratch them off your list.

If I were you, I'd dole out the cash for a refresher course to make yourself more marketable. You will have better options than these scumbag OTR, ripoff outfits. BOL.
