Default Sirius radio is driving me insane, help

I use a Sirius radio but it's not connected directly to the radio so I'm always changing stations and am freezing my *** off because turning the fan up on the heater creates static also. Every truck I see seems to have a satellite radio so it must not be as expensive as I've been quoted to get it wired to the radio. It's an '07 Kenworth and the dash looks impossible to take off. How much will it cost me to get a nice new Sirius radio professionally installed and end my insanity? Thanks.

They are supposed to work in connection with your old radio so there is no need to take out the old one or tear the dash apart.. you will spend around $100 to $150.Depends on what ya want. And if you wish not to have stations get lost if ya run in mountains then invest another $100 and get an external mushroom looking antenna with power boost.I got my antenna at the Petro truck stop in Carlisle Pa for $99.oo...Its been awhile since I got mine so the price may have changed a little.

Wouldn't I need the dash to come off to get at the back of the radio though? What would they be charging me to do with that $100-150?

I've had my serius radio for about 4 years now. I've never had any interference from a fan or anything else. I tune my radio in around 88.5 give or take and only have to change channels about 3 times a week on average.

you might just have a grounding problem. check the connections at the alternator. you never mention that when the wipers are on you get static, or any other electrical device. the heater uses an awful lot of volts and amps. don't forget, "EVERY TRUCK YOU SEE" with satelite radio, MAY HAVE HAD that installed at the factory..............as it came down the assembly line.

try just about any radio sales shop, even the ones that 4 wheelers drive into. if any place sells/installs satelite radios, then a big rig shouldn't be any problem. then too, what's to say that after you pay all that money for a "orofessional install", that the static will be totally gone....??

check out the grounds first, ALL the ground straps, connections, etc. if under warranty, have the dealer check it out. explain the situation to them, heck, they may even install the satelite as well.

His problem is that he wants or needs to install a FM Modulator that connects directly into the antenna of the AM/FM stereo to eliminate that static and close FM Freq. The Modulator is about $30.00 at best buy and it takes about 5 minutes to install.

The KW dash should be easy to remove all it is, is a few Screw's at the top and bottom of the specific panel you are taking off.

And yes get a better antenna such as the Wilson Satellite antenna. They are about $69.99 at truck stops or on-line.

If you need more help go to the CB Forum and post your questions there are a bunch of guys who could help you out.
