Default Didn't get approved with schneider...

Well I got a letter from schneider national today saying they wouldn't hire me. It didn't say why though.

Anyway, I have applied through driversolutions and talked to Brent the other day. He is supposed to mail me a packet out to look over. I guess the only two companies that hire in my area (oklahoma) are P.A.M. and USA truck. Out of these two which would be the best? And for what reasons?

I'm kind of running out of options as far as company paid training goes, I mean there's still Swift, CRST, and Prime but I haven't heard good things about them.
I know C.R. England has a training program but I've also heard bad things about them.

Should I just get hired on with whatever company that will take me and stick it out for one year?

I really want to pull flatbeds and I'm curious about the ins and outs of bulk trailers also, but should I just go with reefers to get into the business? I havent found many companies that have training programs to get your cdl that pull flats or bulk trailers.

If you pull reefers can you just drop and hook or would I have to load and unload? I assume it depends on the company but thought I would ask anyway.

Oh and one more question...For what reason do you slide your tandems? Is it so you can get into tight spots or?

Sorry for all the questions, but that's the way to learn I guess. Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Slide tandems mainly to distribute weight on axles to make it legal...Dont look for perfect job, just the one with the least detractions...

It is tough when you are trying to start out, and you get that "you don't fit our profile" answer.

You can contact Schneider and ask them for a reason why you don't meet their requirements. It may be a misunderstanding on their part, or it may be that your background has something that would prevent you from getting a position with almost any company. Asking will get you the answer.

Prime has a deck division. Give them a call. It won't hurt.

I must say that there are very few companies that are any good to a driver once they have parted ways. Just like a shoe, the fit has to be right for you to be happy.

If you have not yet, please write down what you expect from a company, and what you are willing to give them in return. This way, when you go for an interview, you will be prepared to ask questions, and will know when the company does not fit you.

The company will also know if they can give you what you need.

Bulk commodities can be a good job. It all depends on the types of trailers. Hoppers mean a lot of work. Pneumatics mean a lot of noise. Liquids frequently mean "HazMat", and sometimes it can mean a lot of time lost to clean outs.

I hope this helps you in your search.

Thanks for the info.

I think I will call schneider to ask why I wasn't approved. The only things I have on my record are a speeding ticket in may of 05 and I had a DUI way back in 2000 when I was 21. Most of the places I have looked into say dui's are ok as long as they are five years old or older so I don't think that was a problem. I've never had any felonies or anything like that either.

I'll also take your advice and call Prime to see what they can do for me.

Thanks

I have seen it done to match trailer/dock heights. If the ramp is sort or wasn't designed for a 53' they can be slid to raise or lower the rear of trailer. Only saw this done a few times. Definitely not the norm.

don't bother calling schneider. very rarely do companies tell you why they won't hire you, especially over the phone, as they cannot confirm its really you they are speaking to.

i ran into a simular situation many years ago, different company however, in fact, i was Schanno. they had a lease/purchase plan back then, maybe they still do, maybe they are out of business, i don't care.

they denied me employment. i asked why. the HR dept wouldn't tell me. i asked to talk to someone who will.....they said NO, and hung up.....

when you get denied a job, you CAN call DAC/USIS and tell them you were denied employment. they will send you a free copy of your DAC/USIS report. when that happens, look through it.

furthur, on any application, read carefully the cut-off dates for DUI's, DWI's, arrest's, etc, etc. if you have gone PAST that time frame, personally, i WOULDN'T submit that info, but that's just me.

move onto the next company that WILL HIRE YOU, and forget about schnieder.

heck another company may be a better fit for you anyway...........................
