| | Oregon to California CDL
Got my CDL in Oregon last year, unfortunately have had to move to California recently. There's a lot of good local jobs in my area, but will I have to get a California CDL? If I don't report my new address to the DMV (which is only short-term anyway), will a California company hire me? If I DO make the change through the DMV, will I have to start from scratch with the written, verbal and driving tests? Or will they only require certain re-testing? My CDL is only four months old, I would hate to lose it just because I moved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially as I will probably be moving again in the near future.

are you staying in california permanetly, or just for a few months...??
if permanetly, you have to change over to california.
if only a few months, i think you can keep it, BUT there may be a limit to the time frame here. Quote: |

Should be nothing more than a paperwork transaction. Go to the California dmv and surrender your Oregon liscense and they will issue you a CA cdl license for a small fee. No tests of any kind should be required.

i WAS thinking all he has to do is surrender his license, and pay a nominal fee, BUT you know how things are for us "elite"..........we are cash cows for the states to generate more money. i hope he doesn't have to take any tests, at least not a driving test................But if he isn't working now, he may have to prove he can drive.
he needs to find out himself, and report back to us for future use.

As a long time California resident I sincerely hope you reconsider moving here.
I was born in this state back when it was a decent place to live, but I would GLADLY trade places with you, and live in Oregon.
But, yes, you have about 6 months or so until you need to get a CA CDL.
Heaven help you, driving a rig in this F'ed up police state that is CalHELLifornia, circa 2008.
