What Chickenhauler69 said is very true.

There is not going to be any nationwide strike with the economy in the crapper and getting worse each day.

Hell, even when times were better, most O/Os' have to much at stake to let a rig sit for a week or two and union drivers cant become involved in a strike that doesn't involve the company they drive for.

Instead of a strike, everyone can slow down to 55 and run a straight log book.

Yeah, some will lose revenue, but it won't take long for companies to see a difference in fuel costs, and tire costs.

It won't take long for shippers to understand that your time is important, and will book their loads earlier, and try to get you away from the dock "on time".

Work to rule, rather than be ruled by work.

Unfortunately neither of these will happen either. Trucking is too cut throat these days and there are drivers out there that will laugh at you when they pass you on the highway because they are gonna beat you to the next load of cheap freight!! What they dont realize is that the throat they are cutting is their own.

Unfortunately, "going on strike" is just another way to say "losing my job" for many drivers. It's just not a viable option.

Government regulation isn't the answer either.

The only way to make a real difference is to simply use less fuel. Knock five miles per hour off your speed. Don't idle unless you absolutely have to. If every single trucker on the road would just do those two little things, the amount of fuel saved would be staggering.

The oil companies are going to continue to charge as much as they can until they receive a clear signal that they've reached the top of what the market will bear. As long as driving habits and fuel consumption remain the same or keep increasing, so will fuel prices. It's just that simple.
