I see you are saying that you have retired. Congratulations. Enjoy yourself. So tell me how does an old codger handle retirement? Sitting on the porch in the swing reliving the past glory days?
Didn't you have something like 50 years?
May your retirement last as long as your career did and the best of health to you. |

45 years over 2 million miles driving a city route within a 100 mile radius of Rochester New York.
My left knee started to give out.
I was having a lot of pain raising my left leg up to engage the clutch.
I always floated the gears once I got going, but I had to use the clutch to stop, and start out.
I decided this was time to cash in my Social Security, and 2 pensions instead of going for a knee replacement.
I'm actually burning up the rest of my vacation days because UPS doesn't pay for any unused days.
My official discharge date from UPS Freight is March 31st.
Its very wierd not going into work every week day and doing my route.
So far every day seems like a Saturday.
I get to sleep later in the mornings,of course I still thank Jesus for giving me another day to live,as well as reading at least one chapter in the Bible every morning, that will never change.
Now I have more time with my wife,I can go visit when I want,I have loads of time to play on my computer.
I search all of my news websites on my favorites list to post trucking mishaps on the Accident forum for the Truckingboards every morning.
I'm looking into writting childerns books with my art talent,as well as entering cartoon ,and writting contests in magazines.
The opportunities are endless of what I can do not having a steady job anymore.
So far so good,it just seems very strange not doing my route like I had to for all of those years, but I'm getting used to it.

It won't be long until you are driving over to the places you had coffee, and sit down with your fellow drivers again.
Just for old times sake.
Please don't give in and become a dispatcher though, Not even to fill out your days.
Happy retirement. Now you can enjoy yourself and do all thos ehtings you wished you had time for in the past.
