Deputies: FedEx Driver Stole Mail-Order Drugs
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A fired Federal Express employee is accused of stealing two dozen packages containing prescription drugs belonging to Union County residents.
Dennis Leopard of Taylors is charged with theft of a controlled substance, but investigators said the crime appears to be part of a broader pattern of theft.
Leopard was arrested by Union County deputies last week.
Union County Investigators said that when they went to Leopard's home, they found about 200 packages, including everything from prescription drugs to electronics and children's toys.
At least 24 of the stolen packages were addressed to people in Union County. All of those packages contained prescription drugs, investigators said.
The thefts date back to November 2007, investigators said.
Investigators said that Leopard told them that he was behind in delivering packages, so he took them to his house with the intention of delivering them later.
Investigators said that the majority of the packages were not opened or tampered with, but that the packages containing medications were opened.
Leopard admitted taking some of the drugs, investigators said.
Investigators said that Leopard may face charges in other counties, including Cherokee and Spartanburg.
Leopard was fired from Federal Express, investigators said. The company is working to deliver all the packages that were discovered at Leopard's home. |
