I decided to move on to local work and got on with another company. Well, I'm not cut out for Local work and that did not work out so now I am unemployed. And since then it's been unbelievably hard to obtain another truck driving. I know my DAC report shows 2 speeding tickets in 2002. But it does not show that in 2002-2003 there was 2 preventable accidents with jb hunt and SRT. Is there another way for trucking companies to obtain this information other than the use of the DAC report?
I've been passed over at least 3 times. I've gone as far as taking the urine test and I still get passed over. Its been a waste of my time and Gas to say the least along with frustration. I've been told that it's a safety issue. I had a couple of writeups with r&l, not accident related, but I don't know for sure it that is what is causing the bad luck. At this point I am getting desperate and even though I dont want to go OTR...I am seriously thinking about doing that. The thing is I am a new dad and I an I am desperately seeking work. If I could obtain another linehaul job where I could be home mostly every night that would be ideal. If any of my fellow truck drivers have some advice, comments, insight or information to give it would be appreciated. |
your last reportable accident was in 2003.....it IS 2008, but you might need to wait till the anniversary date of that accident then about one(1) month later, obtain your DMV record. from there (the DMV record) and IF your state GOES BACK 5 years, then it should be wiped clean...
now as for your DAC, you can obtain a copy for free at least once per year, more free copies if you are denied a job.
now it does depend on the HOW's, WHY's, and WAY's you left R+L for your other job...
di you just up and quit, or did you give notice, or were you fired......
some companies (CR England) for instance, DO NOT even look at the application if you "self terminated" (quit) a job.....i know this because i applied to CR England some weeks ago, and one of thier many "disqualifications" for working with them is what i just stated, amoung other disqualifing items...
now, employers MUST BE very careful as to what they say about a former employee, lest they get sued these days. my advice is to call R+L and speak with HR dept, and Safety dept people. lay it on the line that you need to know what (if anything) they are saying about you when someone calls for a reference.......
you might be having "bad luck" as you say but this is still a slow season for drivers right now. there aren't as many jobs in the papers as before, and the economy is bad, so hiring freezes might be taking place as well.
just because YOU DID go for a drug screening doesn't mean you'll get the job, its a formality. its highly possible someone else had the pre-employment screening before you, and that person was selected over you, so don't suspect there is some sort of conspiracy against you (just yet).
when you fill out ANY application, put down you are available 24/7 for whatever shift the need you for........days, weekends, holidays, casual, part-time, whatever, whatever.....at least you can get your foot into the door.
do not be affraid to mention that if they don't need a driver, you'll do yard work, or work the docks, again, foot in the door.
sell yourself as best you can. be clean shaven, wear clean neat clothes, smell good, but not over-powering, and talk politely.
right now, its an employer's market, the employer can be VERY fussy as to who they hire, or simply file the application in the "circular file"...........
keep us informed.
