From the drivers that I have talk to, they say that it is not a bad job. Good pay, good hometime, good benifits.

Now the bad:
The DRIVERS unload the truck at every stop. They are requires to break down the load to customer requierments. They do multi-stop foodservice delivers to other foodservice distributors(all warehouses).

If your friend does not mind physical work, go for it.

for free or very little stop pay too. Its been so long since i talked to one of their drivers. They are getting out of lumper fees. Making the driver the lumper is so much cheaper.

There paid xx amount per case. Not done for free. Some of the places(like the FSD that I use to work for) did not charge a lumping fee. They don't do grocery warehouses.

When I worked for Tankersley Foods they came to our warehouse twice a week, out of all the drivers I met, not one complained, its true, they do get paid to sort, I have seen some of their drivers that chose not to mess with it though, at Tankersley we had employees of the company that did the unloading and sorting, no lumpers on company property, most of the DOT Foods guys helped sort because they got paid to do it, all of them were friendly, alot of the guys that I got to meet were with the company 5 or more years, from what one guy told me they bid their runs kind of, one guy was filling in for another guy and he told me he would like to have that run but he didn't have the seniority. I got the impression it was a good company. Hope that helps.

I drive for Dot. Great job, great pay, great benefits. They treat you like a human being, listen to you when you have a problem and get you home at least every weekend and often a time or two during the week.

We do unload our own trucks at most stops, and also have some Subject To Count stops. We get paid $20 per stop up to three stops, and an additional $12 per stop after the third. When unloading you get 20 cents per case and 6 cents per line item. Drop and hooks are paid at $15, and you'll be paid $25 for each pickup. If you do a custom haul for another carrier, you get $50. This is all in addition to mileage pay.

I have to go right now, but I'll post more about it later. Basically, I love working for Dot and have no intention of driving for anyone else in my career.
