Default Maverick or KLLM??

I am trying to figure out which company would be best. I just graduated from driving school and obtained my CDL. I am thinking either Maverick or KLLM. I want good money but I want a company that's fairly easy to work with and that I'll be happy with for a long term job. I've heard good things about both. Please help!!

Flats are dead right now due to the housing crash. Everyone has to eat so I would pick the reefer outfit.

Default New Driver

just wanted to tell you I went to work for Maverick in dec.2001. I only lasted 6 months because i'm not cut out to pull flat-beds.
I've been an OTR driver for 24yrs,and except for the short time I was with Maverick it has always been dry vans.
I wiil say the drivers at Maverick that had been pulling flat-beds all their lives were very happy with Maverick.
And Maverick is a very driver friendly co. at least they were when I was there.
TO be honest,it wasn't that bad except for when you had to mess with the lumber tarps.
The steel tarps were easy to man handle but the lumber tarps would kill you..!!
And it's not real fun trying to tarp and untarp a load on a cold windy day in Chicago.
But every job has it drawbacks I guess.
I know nothing about KLLM. The few times I had to pull a reefer,I knew I didn't like it.
But some people like pulling reefers.
Well i hope that helped you some..GOOD LUCK

In Feb. '05 I went to orientation in Jackson, MS for KLLM. I was told I would start at .31 a mile after I went with a trainer for a week or so. The add in my local paper at the time promised out 14 days and home for 4 days. As we all know you will be told whatever you want to hear to get you there. After orientation I was informed that my trainer was in the area getting his truck worked on and would contact me soon. Two hours later I called the terminal and was told he was there but was waiting on our load to show up. Ninety minutes later I was told the driver had forgot to leave the paperwork and the trainer would contact me. The next morning at 6:00 I was told we were still waiting on our load. (I still had not been called by the trainer.) At 4:00 that afternoon I decided I had been jerked around enough and went back home. The trainer never contacted me and the weekend dispatcher said she had no clue as to what was going on. In '06 I ended up with Old Dominion and have been happy every since.
