As an obviously unbiased WeatherSpotter, I strongly encourage everybody to get involved.

It's not just about tornadoes - high winds, heavy storms, hail, etc., all count. Who here hasn't run into those?

Sassquatch I would like to thank you for the words of encouragement.

The effects of severe weather is felt every year by many Americans. To obtain critical weather information, NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, established the SKYWARN™ program along with partner organizations such as Trucker Weather Watch. SKYWARN™ is a volunteer program and it is these volunteers that help keep communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

SKYWARN™ storm spotters are part of the ranks of citizens who form the Nation's first line of defense against severe weather. There can be no finer reward than to know that their efforts have given communities the precious gift of time--seconds and minutes that can help save lives.
