I hit a deer one morning in a big truck. Three of them ran across a 2 lane I was rolling down. Knowing I was gonna hit at least one, I slowed as quickly and as much as I could, then lined up on the deer crossing in front of me. At the last second, I swerved in the direction the deer was running. Picked it off with a clean hit. The owner thanked me for reacting so professionaly, the only damage was to the right bumper section, which they could easily bend back. I continued on to deliver my load on time, planning to pick up the deer on my return. Wouldn't ya know someone scabbed my deer within the 2.5 hours I was gone.
The moral is by hitting in the direction the deer is running, you reduce velocity and by hooking off the corner, you drop the deer under the truck not into the hood.
