Trucker574 is on a distinguished road
Default Does it matter?

Hello truckers. Thanks for all of your advice. I think that I have decided to join the trucking family. My problem is not if I want to any longer, but with whom.

I have a list of companies. All of which are offering me paid training. Which one do I choose???, is where I’m at now.

I meet a former trucker recently in Wal-Mart just briefly. He mentioned some things to ask when choosing a company like do they pay you if you are unloaded driving. He called it something that I can’t remember and mentioned a lot of other things to check.

Can someone give some things to ask when being interviewed by a trucking company or should I say when I go to interview them? Thanks and keep on trucking. Hope to meet you on the road soon.

empty is called = deadheading.......

there are a slew of questions to ask a trucking company. but rather than to type them all up here, there are some "sticky's" posted on the various boards we have. i might miss something myself.

now too remember, if you do not even have your license yet, then at the trucking school you can ask there as well.

personally, i would NOT recommend a trucking company as your source of training. you will have to literally sign your life away, from anywhere's 1 to 3 years to pay of that loan they secured for you. if you can, i would highly suggest that you attend a real truck driving school, get a student loan from them, and pay that bank back. this way, say if for instance you do not like the trucking company you are training with, remember, you signed on the dotted line, you are liable for the entire loan.......you really want that burden over you..?? i wouldn't.......

there will be others that will stop by later for more info for you.

Don't tell anybody, but I agree with Pro1Driver here. That is the cardinal rule for wannabes. Get the CDL on your own dime.

After you have it, you can choose the companies you want to work for. There are a dozen or so of the big 50 who will take school grads (particularly if the school is PTDI certified). Local companies - construction, hauling, tank... all kinds, will take you right out of school, too.
