The FMCSR requires that your new employer (prospective) get 3 years safety/drug screen info from previous employers.
Also, they must look back 10 years if any job prior to 3 years ago involved driving a CMV.
Typically, criminal background checks are not performed by a company.
They may or may not do a credit check. As somebody earlier mentioned, it seems silly, since most truckers seem to be in hock up to their eyeballs anyway.
One place where a criminal background check WILL be performed is if you apply for a hazmat endorsement on your CDL. The price of the BI varies from state to state. The lowest I've seen is about $50, the highest I've seen is about $150.
If you've never driven CMV before, no need to worry about the DAC. (I'd not be too worried about it anyway - less and less attention is being paid to the DAC anyway)
I am in the same boat with you = I have *terrible* credit, and as of today, have been unemployed for more than 5 months. However, I have at least 3 job offers on the table right now with national carriers, and two local. (I had a 4th national carrier, but circumstances required that I pass on their orientation. Annoyed me no end). One way or another, I'll be going to orientation next week.
