Default Log Book 101

I have a couple of log book questions I that I am not sure of. Maybe someone can help?
1.) On the 70hr/8day rule. Can a driver work indefinitely as long as he/she does not go over 70 hrs?
2.) What exactly is a split sleeper berth entry and can a solo driver use it and when?
3.) Can a driver work over the 14 hr limit without driving?

Thanks guys. I know this is probably really easy for most of you, but I haven't figured them out yet.

(1) Yes. A driver may remain on duty for more than 14 hours; however, the driver of a property-carrying CMV cannot drive after the 14th hour after coming on duty. Also, the additional on-duty time will be counted toward the 60/70-hour on-duty limit.

(2)G-3. How does a driver who is utilizing the sleeper berth provision calculate his or her compliance with the 14-hour rule?
A sleeper-berth period of at least 8 consecutive hours is excluded from calculation of the 14-hour limitation. All other sleeper berth periods are included in the 14-hour calculation (unless part of a sleeper-berth/off-duty combination of 10 or more consecutive hours).

HOS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

Maybe this will help.

1). The Magic number is 8.75 hours per day. As long as you do not exceed 8.75 hours per day (on duty not driving and driving) you couls work every day of the year without being in violation.

2.Already answered by previous poster.

3.Yes the HOS put restrictions on driving. This means that you can work 24 hours a day every day without being in violation as long as you did not attempt to drive a cmv until you had a 34 hour reset. This is how many drivers pad their paychecks at the end of the week. Working the dock to get extra money after they have maxed out their driving hours for the day or week.
