I am not a "Truck Driver", but I drive about 55,000 to 75,000 miles a year for work. This evening I was traveling on I-40 east and there was a lane closing ahead. So traffic slows down in both lanes and a 18 wheeler in the left lane, the one thats closing ahead is going about 5 mph. We do this for about 3 miles and everyone that was behind him has merged over into the right lane. I am right behind him now. We are about 500 yards from the lane closing and he starts to merge right. I start to pass him to get in front of him and merge and he comes back into the left lane. I go all the way into the emergency lane and he hits my mirror with his trailer and stops. I get out and he is running back to my pickup and yelling "Do you think you are something special?" "Do you think you don't have to wait in line like everbody else?" I don't think I am special and I had waited in line for 3 or 4 miles like everyone else. He told me that I cant just rush to the front and he was there to stop me. I explained that I was not rushing to the front I was just trying to get in front of him. I explained that he was going into the right lane and I was passing. He said no he was not going into the right lane he was in both lanes.

He said that he should call the cops and they would write me a ticket. I told him don't bother that I would call them myself. I called the NC troopers and explained that we had a very minor accident. The whole time this guy wont shut-up. I'm getting a ticket, he has to make sure that everyone waits their turn. In the mean time a sheriff deputy shows up. This guy runs to his window and is talking before the deputy can even get the door open. They talk and then the deputy looks at my truck and says hey its very minor and the troopers are going to take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get here. Can you just let it go. I said sure, it's not that big of a deal, I just think this guy way out of control. The deputy says I AGREE thats why I don't to stand out here with him for 2 hours. So he got the driver in his truck and gone. So now my question. I have seen drivers do the slow driving thing when there is a lane closing and such. Why? Why not just get over and let people do what ever they are going to do? Why do some drivers think that they have to hold up traffic? I know that they are good and bad people in every profession and there are idots everywhere you go, but I am seeing this more and more. Charles
