Default Compensation has brought me closer to my children.

OK so I have been out on comp since Feb. 15 2008. My wife has an excellent position with a local hospital so we kind of only fell a little bit behind.
What I wanted to bring up is that in these last 4 mos. I have been the one in charge of taking care of my 9 yr old son, my 7 yr old daughter, and my 3 yr old daughter has spent all day every day with me. I was the guy that worked for an LTL for 60-70 hrs per week. I did not realize how much of everyday life I was missing. It is true overtime pays more because of what you miss. I am going back to work on Mon. I got kind of choked up setting my 3 yr old up with daycare. I enjoyed the fact that if there was a problem at school they could call me. I have never been this involved, But from here on out I refuse not to be.
You FATHERS that are out there missing your childrens lives. Please get home this weekend and show them how much you appreciate them as they show the same to you. I'm going to miss my everyday at home more than I miss my job now.

Right on!

What is the little ditty they say...???

"On ones death bed, no one has ever been heard saying they wished they had spent more time at the office..."

How true that is.

16 years ago, the wife and I made a choice about this very topic.
Prolly cost me a million in retirement, but we were there with the kids. Used cars. Small house...but we did not raise kids who slice themselves, get arrested, kill the classmates...etc, etc.

So many households kill themselves for the two new SUV's in the driveway.
Bah humbug.
Ill turn a wrench on my old pickup...with my son...thank you very much!

Good luck

Me too. On comp and taking care of the kids. We have 2 autistic boys as well as 2 other children and I know what the wife goes through when I am gone. Wish I made more to hire her a maid or something. God Bless all you mothers that stay at home and raise the kids.

My husband worked all he could so I could stay home with our kids and not be in a daycare. We didn't have 2 nice cars or a nice house. We got by without the fancy vacations, cruises, etc. Our kids are still pretty close to us, sometimes TOO close. Sometimes the "shop" at Mom and Dad's.

Hopefully we'll get to have early retirement and we'll all get to have fun vacations with our kids and grandkids.

Our 3 year old granddaughter is big on 'sharing'. If I come over and have a coke, she saids SHE will share with ME.
