Exclamation new class a whats next

does any one have any good advice on how to get started. got my cdl class a, but how to get a job without any experience. should i just buy a truck and haul their trailers for somebody like jb hunt. do you buy a new one. sounds like a new one would kill me with payments and insurance. buy a used one but with how many miles. or just go to work for budweiser for a while and is that enough experience then to get on the road. help i m lost. i got some money to get going with but dont know which way to go . here alot of bad stories. any help would be much apprecieted thanks -catfish

I wouldn't buy a truck right now, but that is me. With fuel prices, there will be some pretty tight profit margins and there are many pitfalls out there. If I had to start now, I would look for a yard jockey job somewhere. Get lots of good experience in a yard is better than getting it in traffic. Make you much better than the average joe at backing up too. Keep your eyes open at a wharehouse big enough to have some jockeys and you will learn soon which way you prefer to go. OTR or local. Good luck.

The ONLY drawback to a Yard Jockey Job is that whenever one leaves the Daycab for a Road Truck, there is no longer a back Window.
There are always trade offs.

Lots of OTR jobs out there with the big companies like JB Hunt, Werner, Schnieder, Swift, PAM, USA Truck, etc. They pay about min. wage and keep you out all the time but its a start. Most local jobs, at least here in MI they want 2-3 years OTR experience MINIMUM before they'll consider calling for an interview.
