its a matter of personal preference. i drove "first generation" automated shift transmissions and i hated it. i couldn't wait for my normal 10 speed transmission.

the newer generation automated shift transmissions are supposed to be better though.

when you have the automated shift, you pretty much let things happen as they are. but you can still shift manually if need be, and most times an engine brake is installed as well.

the automated shift transmissions cost a wee bit more.......and.....if anything goes wrong with the electronics..........well let's just say, those drivers with "ordinary" transmissions, will be passing you by as you wait for the tow truck, to take you to a dealer........

Sure. Thats becuase the owners got wise and dumped the autos. I wont drive one unless I absolutely had to.

The were junk when they first came out and they are still junk now. A proper truck has a manual shift tranny, period.

I've been driving a Freightshaker Cent. Class for about 3 years with a Cummins N14 and an Eaton-Fuller Autoshift.
I have a Clutch and although I can shift it Manually, it is a pain to have to deal with that silly alarm for "over" revving.
I'm still waiting for some Sensor to quit.

Auto or Manual is a personal option and cannot be forced upon anyone.

--I still want to try a Mack Twin Stick--
