Interested in NAFTA?
In Texas, four mayors of small towns, total population of 6000, have joined together in a planning commission to stall, at least for many months, the building of two superhighways across Texas, up to 3 football fields wide, for open and unrestricted truck use from Mexico to Oklahoma, as the first leg of a NAFTA highway from Mexico to Canada.
Competition will be bitter----trucks from Mexico will not be inspected by US Customs for contents, and trucks won't have to meet the environmental regs that US trucks do.
Thousands of Texans have objected, but so far those 4 mayors have been able to delay the project. Now 7 other commissions have formed. I wonder
why Teamsters Unions have not been fighting these projects becasue of the unfair competition that is going to come. Wonder why truck ownes haven't objected.
If anyone can tell me, would like to know. And, if there isn't any reason and you want to weigh in, contact Mayor Mae Smith, city hall, Holland, Texas and tell her you support their effort.
