Default Question: How many of you smoke cigarettes?

As a former smoker I know all about it, so take it from me, I know about how hard it is to quit tobacco. I smoked Marborol Reds, two packs a day for 8 years.

I quit 27 years ago when I was still a young man. Not bragging as it was the hardest thing I ever had to do, other then burying my parents.

So here is what I would like to know:

Q: If a new law was passed banning smoking in commercial trucks would you quit trucking, quit smoking or ignore the law?

BTW, I know of at least one trucking company that does not allow smoking in thier equipment, that being Oak Harbor Freight Lines out of Washington state. I am sure there are others out there too.

OK fire away!

since i do not smoke, i wouldn't have to quit (driving). i'd be very happy in fact as i share a truck with a city driver whom does not smoke, but on occassions, another city driver will use my truck, and he smokes. SO banning cigarette smoking is ok with me.

i really cannot see how banning smoking in a truck that only one person operates can become a law. an owner-operator in fact should do as he wishes, as he's paying for the truck.

a company may ban an employee from smoking though, since he is only an employee.....

i mean what would there have to be, "smoking cops" on the overpasses or at the scales...???

and, who's to say the person in the truck IS a smoker...??? it could be he's sharing that truck with someone else like i am.......am i to be charged with smoking....?????

more opinions please........

If I was still smoking, I'd start firing letters off to my local, state, and national governmental representatives and encourage other drivers to do so as well.

You think the government is big now?! (they are the biggest national employer this country has) Their reach will be total and complete if they pass a law like this.

As an aside, I appreciate drivers who smoke to vent the cab while they are smoking so that I don't have to smell the ashtray they left behind.

I will continue to smoke in the Truck I'm driving because when OTR it IS AS WELL MY HOME and NO ONE will EVER tell me what I can or not do inside MY HOME!!
I don't Drink Alcohol, nor do I do other Drugs besides Nicotine and Caffeine.

I smoke cigarettes and sure it is bad for ME, yet I don't care when I'm OUTSIDE whether or not my smoking offends someone. They can move and the gubmint can fondle and caress the south side of a north bound Mule.

Hi Cerberus_Kelpie,
I agree that driving OTR is and should be treated like your home and I sure as hell think we have too many government agencies and too many laws then we really need for our own good. Out here in sunny Kaleeforneeya we are now stuck with a new "hands-free" cellphone law for anyone driving a vehicle. Just another stupid law that lots of people are now getting stopped for by the cops. Hell, after almost 30 years driving, I have seen lots of 4x4 drivers doing things, like reading newspapers at 70 MPH, so this new cellphone law is a big waste of time that won't do much good, IMO. Oh well, the way things are going in the US, we will need a license to take a leak or clean the windshield before much longer.

I spoke to an O/O from Ohio and he said they passed a law that you cant smoke in your workplace and his workplace is his truck so legally he is not allowed to smoke in his truck.
I work in a steel factory in WV and they wont let us smoke in the shop, however there are guys arc welding all over the shop which puts off harmful smoke. WV sucks as far as smoking bans. You cant even smoke in a bar now.
