That's a good question because you would think that if you are the owner or lessee you could decide on your own but FedEx Ground treats their contractors like employees. This is the subject of lawsuits and IRS hearings. Several courts have apparently ruled that FedEx Ground's Independent Contractor relationship is really an employer/employee relationship but there are still appeals being heard.
You should do a lot of homework before you decide to jump on with them. I know there are many that are happy with the arrangement but I join the camp that says that if you're really an INDEPENDENT Contractor, you should have more decision making power.
