People get into trucking for many reasons. I got into it because I used to do lettering on trucks and I thought it would be "cool" to be "on the road". I am glad I did. It was hard work at first, not all that it was cracked up to be. But once you've been on the road for a couple years, it really does get into your blood. I have had so many great experiences. The good expereinces far outweigh the bad. If you really want to do it, you just have to go for it. Ask around, there are many companies that will put you through a short training course, then with a trainer and then you are on your way. Take your time, listen to what some of the more experienced drivers have to say. BE SAFE AND ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!!

right now i am going through my own "nightmare" which WILL END soon....
here it goes:. i got a job recently with one of those "driver leasing comapnies", the "home office" is in Illinois, with a "satellite office" in my area....i'll get into more info, when i finally quit them, later this week, or next week FOR SURE,......as I DO HAVE another job already lined up...
and I WILL NAME THEM HERE.....
bottom line...?? get a job with a "legit" trucking company, and let the driver leasing companies dry up and fade away..................

Irishgypsy,I'm not sure of your age,but this is what I think.I started my driving career,I think, relatively late in life about age 34. No, it's not old,but old enough to be running OTR,with a wife and kids at home. It was very unsettling ,when I was on the road ,I wanted to be home, when I was home I had "RAMBLIN' FEVER" and wanted to be on the white line. Now,you don't have that issue! If nothing is holding you back ,go for it .Only you know if its right for you ,but if it's in your heart to try then I say go for it. If you go freight I'd say try someone like Old Dominion Freight Lines I believe they have training and for the most part their terminals are easy to get to. You drive your hours and they put you up in a hotel for your 10 hrs off .Many of the terminals will have you home on weekends of for your 34 hour restart. If you decide not to go with a Freight company. Just be careful when choosing an OTR Company, these Recruiters make promises the Dispatchers can't keep. Leave your self an out, alot of company's want a time commitment in exchange for your training.Once your into them for money, they pretty much can treat you how they want, unless you can repay them ,your pretty much stuck with them. This can be a Crooked Business....But,if you love driving ,you'll never know till you try!
