Default Cell phones & plans

Could experienced drivers please tell those of us who are just joining the 21st century and getting our first, and others of us who have found our present phone and/or plan unworkable, what phones/plans work best for driving all over Gods Green Earth, or at least the North American portion thereof?

I agree that Verizon is the best, it is what I have. I have had other companies that charge for roaming when it is difficult to tell when you are roaming in the middle of the call. Also had another company that charged extra for the free nights and weekends. Verizon has an America's choice program that is no roaming and free nights and weekends and credit to a new phone every 2 years. Also it is free anytime to talk to another Verizon customer. I haven't had any problems with being in service but I'm not cross country.

The only draw back is that they may want a deposit if your credit isn't good. My sister had to pay one but got it back after a year of on-time payments. I also had a problem when I was in northern Vermont. They charged me a big fee for International calling. They thought I was in Canada or just got a Canadian tower. I called customer service and told them I never went across the boarder and they credited the amount with no hassle. I'm very happy with them.

Just one word of warning. Be sure you are dealing with a Verizon store as there are broker stores out there and you will end up pay more.

Sprint is the best, IMO. I get 20 percent off for being a YRC employee, they share celltowers and roaming service with Verizon so you can get out further then with the el cheapo cell providers and internet access is only 10 dollars per month. 29 bucks for internet with Verizon and they disable some of the features on your phone then make you pay for them

Don't go with Metro PCS or T-mobile is you get off the beaten path out in no mans land. These are only good in metro areas.

ATT isnt too bad with the roll over minutes, and their coverage isnt bad either, but I don't deal with Ma Bell ever due to past experinces with them.

My new Sprint Motorola Q 9 has GPS real-time tracking so I can see exactly were I am on my google maps and well as use it for the internet.

Way Cool !

You must not venture too far if you think sprint/nextel is the best. I couldnt find a signal with a search warrant when I was with them!!!!

Not saying Verizon is bad at all, shoeman, in fact, except for the higher prices they are a great company and have a great network, but what was it you didnt like about Sprint ?

(not Nextel, as they dont use CDMA technology like Verizon and Sprint do. Thats why you cant call mobile to mobile from a Sprint cell to a Nextel cell for free. Nextel uses IDEN technology to transmit thier cellular signals.)

Verizon does have a larger selection of phones to choose from, but Sprint has worked out well for me and its cheaper then Verizon was. I get 7PM to 7 AM free anytime calling start times at night, free-Sprint to Sprint (not Nextel) calling, free weekends to anyone at all, and they have a fast ED-VO data transfer internet service so I can read the internet without waiting all day.

Just curious about this as I hear some people complain about Sprint customer service, which has never been a problem for me at all.
