what you would want to consider is/these things.....

wait till you actually get assigned a truck.....because, it may have a portable refridgerator installed already.

but if not, then stop by your local wally-world, and pick up either a coleman or igloo portable reefer.

be sure not to cover ANY vent(s) surrounding the unit....

then well, stock up with lunch meats from YOUR local grocery store, NOT truck stop stores.....

you can also buy "tupperware" products and carry along salads.

anything that needs refridgeration, put it in there.

i would also carry along "healthy snacks" like dried fruit which does not required refrideration. then crackers, a varity like peanut butter, or cheese.

your truck "should have" plenty of storage space to add items like cookies, soda, water.....

in the end, yes, the road is expensive. i my self am home every other day, so to "eat out" it ain't so bad right now, plus i share my truck with someone else, so i do not want to put a portable reefer in there...BUT, i do have a "six-pack" type of portable reefer i do take with me. its enough to store about 6 to 8 sandwiches.

my meals at the truck stops are usually "all you can eat" buffets, which CAN BE cheaper at times.......$8.99 to $11.00 is what i have been paying, plus i have to pay for the beverage, and tip the waitress.....BUT, if i do get the buffet, and that waitress DOESN'T keep my coffee cup full or my iced tea glass full.....she loses out on the $2.00-$3.00 tip.........

and i pretty much only eat twice a day.......(for now)...........and then also, i am only actually buying food on the road, about 2 days per week, rarely 3 days a week...

What I do sometimes is get a $5 footlong from Subway, add double meat and have the person package each half separately. It actually turns into a $7 footlong at that point. I eat the first half and save the other half for later. Each half keeps me pretty full.

There are many kinds of 12 voly appliances you can buy. The lunchbox type can actually be used for all kinds of meals and the sauce pots can be used for heating up soup and stuff... 12-Volt Products at Volume Outlet Prices - 12VoltAccessoryOutlet.com?

sometimes drivers sell them used or you can always check ebay..they cost more in the truckstops so look around for better prices.
